With the clever upside-down placement of the letters “v” and “n” in “Lovely” and “Lonely,” the book depicts two states of self-perception, about the contradictory state between the individual and the community, entering a secluded theater for self-dialogue.
This is my first picture book. “Compared to an animation of three hundred frames and ten seconds, a ten-page picture book seems more interesting…” The frames that disappear between pages aren’t truly gone; instead, they enter your imagination! The entire story is illustrated from the same camera angle, similar to an animation storyboard, using a “discontinuous continuity.” By flipping the pages by hand, the reader propels the temporal axis of the story. I hope the reading process can be repetitive, and in the back and forth, fresh insights can be discovered. Perhaps part of the joy in reading picture books lies right here!
